Commercial Alarm System Commissioning

As part of the commissioning process Multi Alarm GB inspects the installation, tests all detectors, manual call points and sounders.

Multi Alarm GB can commission Fire Detection & Alarm Systems designed by themselves and those designed by others.

Commissioning

The commissioning of a system consists of:

  • Entering configuration data into the IFAXOnSite computer program, if this has not already been carried out
  • The complete installation is inspected to ensure that the work has been carried out in a satisfactory manner and that the methods, materials and components used comply with the System Design Specification
  • Checking the positioning of detectors, height of Manual Call Points and height of Control Equipment
  • Checking that all equipment is securely mounted
  • Checking that the system battery is marked with the date of installation
  • Checking that all detectors and Manual Call Points function correctly and initiate the correct response
  • Checking that any connection to an Alarm Receiving Centre operates correctly
  • Checking that any signals to ancillary system or equipment are given correctly
  • Checking that all sounders are emitting the same tone and that they function in an alarm condition
  • Checking that the audibility is above the limits required by the System Design Specification
  • Measuring the current drawn by the System from the battery without a mains supply, in quiescent and alarm conditions. The currents are verified to ensure that the stand-by period is in accordance with the System Design Specification

Handover

Handover of the system will normally be to the customer. The following documentation is handed over following a successful commissioning:

  • BAFE SP203 Modular Certificate for Design if designed by Multi Alarm GB
  • BAFE SP203 Modular Certificate for Commissioning
  • BAFE SP203 Approval Certificate if applicable
  • BS5839-1 Certificate
  • Log Book
  • Control Equipment Users’ Manual
  • Configuration Data Listing
  • A copy of the System Design Specification, showing any amendments.

User instruction and training is given at the time of handover and if agreed, later, when the building is occupied.
